Summary:  While laying low at The Quiet Hearth, we get a message from Sanria saying that the guards belong to Garlan, who has the manuscript.  We are told to flee, and stay out of Kunnig.  Immediately after this, we are attacked by a wizard.  After the battle we take Karris and the wizard, and burn down the bar.  We hide in Karris' home.

Sarah's Telling:

We spent two days at The Quiet Hearth.  Patches took up working in the kitchen to cover our stay, and he managed to develop a relationship with Karris, the owner of the bar.  On the second night, on our way up to bed, I recieved a message from Sanria.  In my head (in her voice) I heard, "Garlan has the manuscript.  The city guards are his.  Kundol has been killed.  Flee.  Stay out of Kunnig.  I will contact you when I can."  I dropped to the ground in the middle of the hall, and began frantically scratching down the message as I recieved it.

While I was writing we heard a woice downstairs, followed by some loud noises.  Patches decided to go downstairs to see what was going on.  I heard him greeted with the words "Down so soon?  No matter."

When I rushed down to assess the situation, I saw a wizard at the door of the inn in the company of two ghouls.  I let Patches know to avoid their bite.  I noticed Karris passed out over the bar.

During the long battle here, Patches was bitten by the ghouls and may have contracted a disease.  I made myself useful with guidance and cure spells, and tried to get to Karris safely.  As soon as it was feasible, I made my way to him, but saw that he had stabilized himself.  I pulled him behind the bar for cover, but had to use my last cure spell on Patches.

Afterward, Patches tied up the wizard that attacked us (Patches wanted information from him) and I looked around for any bit of precious Karris might have in the bar.  Patches assumed that the wizard's comment was a prelude to reinforcements, so we took both men, lit the bar on fire, and retreated northward.

While we were getting away, we noticed the guards rushing toward the burning building summoning water elementals to put out the fire.  Hmm... a good way to get them to expend their resources... so I made a note of the thought.

I found us a dark alley, and tended to the immediate needs of the injured before praying for my spells.  Karris came to while I was praying, and Patches told him that his bar got burned down during the battle with the wizard, but left out who did the burning.

I, with my new shiny spells, cured Karris' wounds enough to get him onto his feet, and he suggested that Patches carry the unconscious wizard.  Patches and the wizard became invisible via a spell Karris cast, and the four of us made our way to his home for shelter.  We assumed others would think Kariss was killed in the fire, so we won't be bothered here, at least for now.

We hid down in the basement, and put the wizard in a cell that Karris had used for summoning research (in case of mishaps).  We filled Karris in on our story.  We decided, then, to stay in the basement for the night.
